Graham Hancock – Quest for the lost civilization

with 3 comments

Quest for the lost civilization, is a stunning documentary by Graham Hancock. This documentary is a breathtaking odyssey, stretching from the pyramids of ancient Egypt to South American ruins. From Easter Island to Angkor Wat, Graham Hancock puts forward compelling evidence to suggest that cultures we term ancient were in fact the heirs to an older lost civilization.
Enjoy!

Graham Hancock (born Aug 2, 1950) is a British writer and journalist. His books include Lords of Poverty, The Sign and the Seal, Fingerprints of the Gods, Keeper of Genesis (US name: The Message of the Sphinx), The Mars Mystery, Heaven’s Mirror (with wife Santha Faiia), Underworld: The Mysterious Origins of Civilization, and Talisman: Sacred Cities, Secret Faith (with co-author Robert Bauval). He also wrote and presented the Channel 4 documentaries Underworld: Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age and Quest for the Lost Civilisation.

His most recent book, Supernatural: Meetings With the Ancient Teachers of Mankind, was released in the UK in October, 2005 and in the US in 2006. In it, Hancock examines paleolithic cave art in the light of David Lewis-Williams’ neuropsychological model, exploring its relation to the development of the fully-modern human mind.

Hancock’s chief areas of interest are ancient mysteries, stone monuments or megaliths, ancient myths and astronomical/astrological data from the past. One of the main themes running through many of his books is the possible global connection with a ‘mother culture’ from which he believes all ancient historical civilizations sprang. Although his books have sold more than five million copies worldwide and have been translated into twenty-seven languages, his methods and conclusions have found little support among academics. Often criticised for being a pseudoarchaeologist, Hancock, who freely admits he has no formal training in archaeology, sees himself as providing a counterbalance to what he perceives as the ‘unquestioned’ acceptance and support given to orthodox views by the education system, the media, and by society at large.

Basing his argument on the 1958 book The Earth’s Shifting Crust by Prof. Charles Hapgood, Hancock argues that sections of the earth’s crust are capable of suddenly shifting their location relative to the underlying mantle. He points to evidence of temperate plants and animals that were apparently “flash-frozen” in areas that are now frigid but were once much warmer. In approximately 11,600 BC, according to Hancock, a sudden cataclysm shifted Antarctica to the south by about 2000 miles. Hancock feels that prior to this event Antarctica may have supported a human civilization whose habitations, including cities, are now buried in Antarctic ice. Citing similarities in the lore of the world’s ancient civilizations, Hancock argues that mariners representing this ancient civilization then travelled the world to found the world’s ancient civilizations.

  1. I would love to read “Supernatural”

I visited his Website. In his latest post he is talking about “Chemical Equator” that divides the polluted air of the Northern Hemisphere from the largely uncontaminated atmosphere of the Southern Hemisphere. Interesting!

I think, Graham Hancock belongs to the group of those tireless researchers and investigative journalists.

After the „The Sign and The Seal“ , he published an interesting book, „Fingerprints of the Gods“, in which he embarks on a worldwide quest to put together the pieces of a vast and mysterious jigsaw-puzzle of mankind’s prehistory. In ancient ruins as far apart as Egypt’s Great Sphinx, the strange Andean temples at Tiahuanaco and Mexico’s awe-inspiring Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, he reveals not only the clear fingerprints of an unknown people who flourished during the last ice age, but also disquieting signs of high intelligence, technological sophistication and details scientific knowledge of the cosmos aeons before any previous known civilisation.

Through the memory-banks of universal myth and legend – which store much of our species’ prehistoric records – Hancock uncovers traces of a precise scientific language, encoding the results of thousands of years of accurate astronomical observations. He studies ancient maps, incorporating spherical trigonometry, showing how the earth would have looked 12,000 years ago – and with levels of accuracy not achieved by our own cartographers until the nineteenth century. Finally, he uses the most up-to-date techniques of geology and astronomy to show that the conventionally accepted dating of a number of intriguing archaeological sites around the world cannot possible be correct and that they must be considered far, far older than was previously thought.

Hancock’s extraordinary findings form the core of what could be an intellectual revolution, a dramatic and irreversible change in the way that we understand our past – and thus ourselves.

But there is something more, a warning maybe. Some of the most disturbing issues raised by Fingerprints of the Gods concern the type and extent of planetary catastrophe that would have had to occur in order to obliterate almost all traces of a large civilisation. The evidence for such a catastrophe, and indeed for more than one of them, is surprisingly strong”

  2. me too, I was searching for ‘Supernatural’ at my local book store but they didn’t have it….i felt disturbed after reading ‘Fingerprints of the Gods’ – I believe in Hancock’s work and I am starting to look at the Apocalypse warning seriously…I strongly believe something will happen around 2012…I’m planning to be with my family in Ethiopia before that just in case (seriously!) i’d rather be at my homeland, a biblical land :) (we never know)
BTW, check out this site i found randomly on the web, there is a group of people that are retreating to the Ethiopian Highlands preparing for the end of Time! http://www.exodus2006.com/

  3. Thanks! The original Exodus plan was for the Ethiopian Millennium. As the domain name says it, from 2006 – 2007. May be that’s why the link to Exodus isn’t active anymore. Anyways some interesting stuffs in there. It takes a lot of hardwork to find the Bible codes.
